Internet calls get cook time in jail

A Bangladeshi cook was sentenced to three months in jail for selling of communication service over the net.

TRA notified the police about MHG, 40, illegally selling communication services over the internet to Indians and Bangladeshis without having a licence for that.

Police investigated the information and proved its authenticity. On June 1 at around 5.25pm, Police raided the house at Al Satwa in Dubai and arrested the accused.

It also confiscated a computer machine, land line, 16 mobile phones, 14 chargers and 11 modems.

MHG confessed to the accusation and said that he made Dh1,400 from selling calls over the net for 25 fils per minute.

The accused who failed to attend the hearing on Tuesday was awarded 3 months in jail in absentia by the Midsdemeanours Court which also ordered the confiscation of the devices.
