In a bid to ensure that the make-up available in the UAE market doesn’t pose a health risk, Dubai Municipality’s public health services department has launched a campaign titled ‘Together for effective control and safer cosmetics’.

The drive kicked off on the side-lines of 8th beauty world exhibition that was held in Dubai recently.

According to Naseem Mohammed Rafee, head of consumer products safety section, many manufacturers of beauty products are keen on providing quick-fixes without checking the safety aspects.

She added that many customers often overlook these concerns in a bid to get a quick make-over.

“Many forget that fake beauty products can crop up in the market and don’t check if the product they are using has filled the required standards,” she said, adding, this campaign was conceived in order to educate customers about the risk of buying beauty products that can harm them.

Naseem tipped residents to pick products that don’t use too many ingredients, and to use make-up sparingly.

“If they spot any change in their skin, then they must discontinue using the make-up immediately.”

She also advised consumers from “staying away from the sun during noon, not applying perfumes directly on skin, using soaps with natural oils, and removing make-up before going to bed.

Naseem reminded that it’s equally important to stay hydrated, avoid smoking, clock in ample hours of sleep, exercise, eat healthy and use health supplements after consulting health expert.

She urged residents to constantly check the consumer products safety section to avoid health and safety risks, and to dial 800900 for any help.
