It happens only in Dubai: Gold facials for Dh89 or Dh25,000

Splurge or save? Beauty fixes in Dubai are budgeted to suit all pockets.

Either you indulge in a whopping Dh25,000-worth ‘24K gold facial treatment’ or pay as little as Dh89 for a similar indulgence.

Yes, pampering your skin can either burn your pocket, or not.

And, the decision rests entirely on you.

The 24K gold facial, which as the name suggests, uses the metal to work magic on your skin.

According to local beauty expert Lee, gold is rich in antioxidants, tightens skin and helps create a radiant glow.

At the Jumeriah Zabeel Saray on Palm Jumeirah the luxurious 24K gold facial is offered for Dh25,000, wherein a mask made of gold chains is used to revive and pamper the skin.

The treatment also packs in a revitalizing Arabian gold Hammam, a rose bliss and Argan oil massage, a milk and rose oil jacuzzi bath, caviar lunch and a glass of bubbly in a private suite.

For Dh25,000, that’s clearly not excessive, right?

Sisters, a beauty parlour in Dubai Mall, also offers the 24K gold facial, but for Dh2,000.

“Sheets of gold will be placed on the face to bring out a radiance,” highlighted one of the staff member.

“It is 24K gold foil strips, that are delicately placed, and these have healing properties.”

Some other beauty centres promised “instant glow, radiance and a polished skin”.

For cheaper, or low-range, that’s on offer, we are told that you aren’t smeared or painted in gold, but the elements of the metal are mixed with other ingredients.

Some group-buying websites throw in a host of treatments with the gold facial for a discounted Dh219.

“Boost your beauty with a Gold Mask Facial, Manicure, Pedicure and Blow-Dry for Dh219 (Value Dh610) – You’ll be glimmering!” read one deal.

That’s not all, it promised that the facial would leave your skin with “an instant glow” and would “reduce the effect of aging”.

For the price, who wouldn’t want an instant makeover.

These treatments aren’t restricted just to the women. Even the men can have a go.

We found a cheaper option that trumpeted “24 Karat Gold Facial for men for 60mins for only Dh192”.

But since we didn’t indulge in any of the above offers, we must clarify that we can’t vouch for its worth and, obviously, its impact on our beauty.
