A voluntary safety recall has been issued by Jaguar for its 2013 XF and XJ 2.0 litre vehicles over a manufacturing defect that could result in the engine cutting out.

According to Al Tayer Motors, which is the local importer and dealer of Jaguar cars, along with Abu Dhabi and Al Ain dealer Premier Motors, nearly 110 vehicles have been affected – 92 XF type and 17 XJ models.

Working in coordination with the Ministry of Economy’s Consumer Protection Department, the UK-manufactured vehicles have been pulled up over ‘incorrect design tolerances’.

A statement issued reads: “In the affected vehicles, as a result of supplier manufacturing process capabilities and incorrect design tolerances, the hose to the resonator joint in the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) assembly may not be fully secure.”

As per the statement, high boost pressures may loosen the hose from the clip and the joint assembly could separate as an outcome, resulting in the engine cutting out.

The statement adds: “Should the engine cut out occur, the vehicle will lose brake power assistance; however, foundation brakes will continue to operate.”

The vehicle could then fail to restart.

According to Jaguar, while one low speed accident has occurred due to this problem, no incident has been reported in the UAE so far.

Al Tayer and Premier Motors have issued statements that they would be contacting customers and modifications will be made free of cost.
