Dubai’s Anti-Narcotics Department has seized 36 kilograms of hashish worth an estimated half a million dirhams in an undercover drug bust at Jebel Ali.

Two people have been arrested and a third person involved has been declared a fugitive and is suspected of being in another Gulf country.

This third person is also said to be the mastermind of the drug smuggling attempt.

Major General Abdul Jalil Mahdi, Director, Dubai Police's Anti-Narcotics Department, said they had received a tip-off that a large quantity of hashish was on sale in Dubai.

The Dubai agency set up a sting and contacted one of the accused who agreed to meet and sell the cannabis at Jebel Ali.

A signal was agreed on and the date and time specified.

When the drug dealers showed up and gave the signal, the Dubai drug enforcers made the arrest.

The defendants have been referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution on charges of possession and distribution of drugs.
