Ministry of Labour will launch early next year an electronic self-evaluation project.

In line with its Strategic Plan 2010-12, the project aims to provide distinctive e-services and enhance effective cooperative relationship with the private sector, an official at the ministry was quoted as saying by 'Al Khaleej' newspaper.

Essa Al Zarouni, Director of Inspection Department, Labour Ministry, said: "The project will be launched in four stages. The first phase will linclude facilities with more than 1,000 workers."

The project enables companies to evaluate themselves by aswering questions on e-Natwasal (e-communicate) website - the ministry's electronic portal. Thequestions will include data such as the company's function, its application of labour laws, recruitment policy, salary transfer details, incentives given, etc, he said.

"This will not only save time and effort but also enhance transparency and provide the ministry necessary data that can be used to implement or revise labour market policies as and when necessary, said Zarouni. "This will also help reduce complaints of delayed salary payments and issues related to accommodation and working hours, etc.

The next phase will include decision making through preparing a special report based on the data received from the facilities.

This will be followed by establishing regulations and ensuring there are no defeciencies and confirming the application of the regulations.

The last phase will include a re-evaluation after a period of six months.
