Large begging ring busted in Sharjah
Sharjah Police dismantled a large ring comprising many Pakistanis involved in bringing visitors into the UAE for alleged jobs and forcing them into begging.
Police said they had rounded up 26 Pakistanis on visit visas after they were caught begging in various part of the Northern Emirate.
Police acted on a report by a victim who said he had come to the UAE for a promised job but that he was told there was no job after arriving in the country.
“He told police that he had been blackmailed and pressured by the gang to embark on begging and forget about the promised job,” the Arabic language daily Al Khaleej said.
Police managed to locate the whereabouts of most of the gang members before raiding their houses and arresting them, it added.
