A man accused of taking drugs and alcohol raised brows at court in Abu Dhabi when he quickly admitted his crime and asked for an instant sentence. But what surprised the court was that the defendant did not stop laughing during hearings.

When he was faced by the judge about the charges, he quickly admitted them but said he had no previous police record.

After confessing, the judge agreed to his request to hand down the sentence as soon as September 17 although he had insisted on an immediate verdict.

“What surprised the court was that the defendant did not stop laughing through the session yesterday,” Emirat Alyoum daily said.
