Police are investigating a robbery case when a lawyer lodged a complaint that Dh67, 350 was stolen from his car in a busy Ajman area yesterday.

The thief allegedly broke the rear door glass of the car and escaped with money when the car was parked outside a government building for 30 minutes, Gulf News reported.

Recounting the incident, the Arab lawyer Hamdi said that he had withdrawn the money from a bank in Ajman before leaving it in the car, which was parked in Al Jurf district opposite a building that houses the court, public prosecution offices and the residency and foreign affairs department.

"The money was stolen from my car at around 12 noon in the parking area," he said. Hamdi said he parked the car in front of the residency building's main door at around 11.30am.

"I left my car for a short period of time. It was a very busy area and I barely managed to find a parking slot," he said.

"I went to the bank in Ajman, withdrew Dh67,350 which I kept in an envelope and on my way I stopped at a petrol station," he said.

Later, he said he kept the money in the back seat and went inside the court for about 30 minutes to conduct some business.

"When I finished my work and returned to the car I found the rear door window smashed, the door was open and the money was gone," he said.
