Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, Attorney-General of the UAE, stated that legislations to combat cybersecurity in the UAE are comprehensive, complete and provide a deterrent while respecting the rights of individuals and other entities based on the principles of human rights.

This was part of a statement made to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the International Conference on the Criminalisation of Cyber-Terrorism, which was launched today in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The conference aims to find common ground to formulate a system of international laws and legislations to counteract the roots and extensions of the terrorist phenomenon in cyberspace.

Dr. Al Shamsi stressed that the conference has gained considerable importance from two aspects. The first is the scientific value and important practical expertise of its elite participants of leadership, political, parliamentary, legal and academic personalities and representatives of international organisations, research institutions, universities, civil community and private sector organisations, as well as practitioners and experts who provide valuable opinions, ideas and research suggestions that actively support the goals of the conference. The second includes the topics suggested for discussion during the four main sessions of the conference.

The participants at the conference discussed the topics of cyber-terrorism in the context of the conflict of legislations, cultural and social decline, the arrangement between human rights principles and the efforts to combat cyber-terrorism.

These are extremely important current topics that are expected to rise in importance in the future, based on the considerable scientific revolution currently witnessed by the world in the field of information technology and the resulting advanced criminal methods that are increasing steadily as a result of the negative use of cyberspace.

The most dangerous of these are terrorist crimes, also known as cyber-terrorism, which threaten the security and economies of countries and institutions.
