Love to travel? Get paid to fly high with these careers

You need money to travel and many of us plan to go on a worldwide tour after reaching the retirement age, when the children are settled, the house is mortgage-free and all the money that was spent on education can be saved.

Until then, most of us in normal jobs get a month's worth of paid leave annually and we tend to go back to our home country visiting family.

This is the idea of an annual vacation for many who live in the UAE.

Yet, there are people who love to travel the world much before they hit the retirement age of 60 (when most leave the UAE) and that too, without spending anything.

On the contrary, they get paid to travel and sometimes even get better allowances than they would get if they worked elsewhere.

Yes, they are smart enough to have taken up one of these professions.

With these travel careers you get to see the world and even get paid to do so.

This becomes even more enticing if you are passionate about travelling. If you prefer the mundane 9am to 5pm office job, this is definitely not for you.

Fly Emirates or Etihad

This is the best way to travel the world and get paid. Whatever your level may be, try to join one of these two airlines.

They have an ever-increasing destination network, which means you travel to more countries each year, and get paid reasonably well.

And, that’s not all. In all probability your family will also have the chance to travel and see many parts of the world, for free.

Become a roadie

The money here may not be all that great unless you own a production company. But, if you haven’t made it to the circle of investment bankers or if you have a passion for fine arts and acting, this may be for you.

You can be a part of a reputed entertainment company and you will definitely travel the world with touring acts. Lighting and sound engineers, riggers, stagehands and instrument technicians are all considered roadies – so there are many options to choose from.

Become a tour guide

This is an obvious career choice if you love to travel. Here, you will be a part of a travelling group and enjoy your days exploring cities like Athens, Rome or London and helping others to do the same and get paid for it.

Many travel agencies, local or international ones, operate in the UAE and conduct such tours.

You just need to be passionate about travelling and should know all about the popular tourist destinations in the world.

Join the United Nations

If you like to travel and believe in helping the most unfortunate people in the world, you can join an international relief organisation.

If you are in such a job you could be in Afghanistan, Somalia, Rwanda or any other country of the world.

This is not an easy job but it comes with its rewards - and not just the satisfaction of helping the needy.

A good pay package with lots of traveling will be all yours.

Become a journalist

Journalists in the UAE get to travel a lot – mostly on junkets. The whole idea may not sound appealing to some but you should be able to travel at least 20 countries or so in a short span of time. Photo journalists benefit the most as far as travelling is concerned.
