Luxury Car Rental: Dubai gets Dh320,000 returned to tourist

Dubai’s Department of Economic Development (DED) recently succeeded in settling a dispute between a tourist and a local car rental involving the return of Dh320,000 paid to the company for the lease of a luxury vehicle.

The tourist reported the problem to the consumer protection division at DED, saying the company retrieved the car on the next day on the grounds it was already booked for another person.

However, the company refused to pay him back on time.

After checking relevant documents presented by the tourist, DED decided to contact the car rent firm to resolve the dispute before he left the UAE.

“We contacted the company to make sure they returned all the money to the tourist. Companies and dealers need to adhere to agreements they sign with their customers,” said Ayman Al Falasi, Director, Consumer Protection Division.

“We want to make sure the rights of consumers are preserved and protected,” he told the Dubai-based daily ‘Emarat Al Youm’.
