Maid gets 3 months for killing baby in Fujairah

A court in Fujairah sentenced an Asian housemaid to three months in prison and ordered her deportation from the UAE after she was convicted of killing her newborn baby by dumping him into the waste bin.

The maid had first denied the charges but later confessed to having aborted herself and dumping the baby in the waste bin at her employer’s house.

The baby was later found in the big waste bin outside the house by cleaners emptying the bin in the morning.

Newspapers said the maid told court that she got rid of the baby to avert a scandal since she is not married.

A man from another Gulf country is on trial in Abu Dhabi on six counts of charges, including driving under the influence of alcohol and taking drugs.

The unnamed defendant denied taking drugs, arguing that he had used his friend’s hookah which could contain hashish.

He also denied another charge of failing to renew his driving licence, claiming it has been lost, according to newspapers.

The man was also accused of failing to renew his car’s registration and insurance.

Newspapers said the judge adjourned hearings to June 30.
