Dams in the central region of the UAE have harvested more than 210 million gallons of rain water in 15 days of rains till November 12.
Rains had resumed in the central region and parts of the eastern region on November 12, after a heavy downpour on November 9, The Gulf Today reported on Thursday quoting the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water.
The rains were mostly in the valleys of Masafi, Alseeji, Marbad and Al Abadla in the eastern region while showers helped replenish water levels in the valleys of Showkah, Alqashish, Alqasa, Almansab and Almudainah.
Several breakwaters of dams in the region saw water overflowing.
The rainfall and water harvesting in the region will enhance the quality of groundwater and help wash away or decrease salinity in the soil. This is expected to increase agricultural yields and bring good revenue to farmers in the area.
