Ras Al Khaimah will witness the biggest ever underwater and coastal clean-up off the shores of the emirate as part of the celebrations for Earth Day 2013.

Divers in the community will be joined by staff at Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa, together with sister hotels Hilton Ras Al Khaimah and DoubleTree by Hilton Ras Al Khaimaha to undertake the drive to mark the occasion on April 22, 2013.

With the help of local water-sport centre, Adventure Sport, and with backing from RAK Tourism Authority and Project Aware, the strength of will from the combined efforts of all involved will ensure the sparkling waters off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah remain fresh, clean and, above all, crystal clear.

The underwater clean-up campaign will also involve a full underwater debris survey by divers with the aim of identifying and correcting problem areas and sites to hopefully lead to a permanent reduction of waste and refuse from entering, and remaining, in the sea.

Part of the Ras Al Khaimah’s continuous effort to promote environmental conservation awareness, the more advanced divers focused on cleaning the Allia dive site while others will cover Mina Saqr, 50 and 40 minutes away from the resort respectively.

Adventure Sport will provide all  dive equipment as well as  boats to transport the divers to the key  sites, and after these 2 dive sites, all divers are invited to clean the underwater along the house reef of Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa.

Mohab Ghali, Country Manager, Ras Al Khaimah Hilton Worldwide said: “This initiative is one of the biggest joint projects we are organising in Ras Al Khaimah and I am delighted all Hilton Worldwide hotels in the emirate are directly involved in the clean-up efforts in one way or another. Ras Al Khaimah is a vital market for the company and it is important that we do all we can to help preserve and conserve RAK’s natural beauty and maintain its growing international appeal as a charming, authentic holiday destination.”

Volunteer divers will celebrate their hard work with a lunch buffet treat of Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa and some fun raffle prizes from Hilton Worldwide which included relaxing breaks, dinners, spa treatments, Seawings flight and more.
