A 31-year-old man has been accused of duping an Iranian woman of 50 kilogrammes of gold in a case that came up for hearing at a Dubai court.
Identified as AA, the man who fled the country to Thailand, was earlier arrested and repatriated by Interpol.
The case, which was adjourned by the Dubai Misdeameanour Court, accuses AA of cheating his friend's mother who was promised high profits with his purported sale of her gold to Russian traders.
The 44-year-old woman FH told police that the man has for around two years been collecting her gold with the promise of getting higher rates.
At one point, she is said to have parted with 11 bullion bars worth Dh850,000 to the accused in return of a cheque for Dh500,000.
According to FH, she handed over jewellery and watches worth about Dh673,000.
She also gave jewellery worth Dh2.825 million, gived to her by her husband's friend MH, to be sold.
The culprit led a high life by staying in a suite in the Burj Al Arab and driving different luxury cars.
The adjournment came after the defence lawyer sought more time to review the case.
