Man arrested for impersonating CID officer

Two men, one a fugitive, have been accused of impersonating CID officers and assaulting a person to steal his mobile phone and money.

As per a case that came up for hearing at Dubai Criminal Court, an 31-year-old Algerian national, who works as a clerk, and now-fugitive compatriot, stopped Abu Baker Saleh at 11.30pm on May 2 at Al Musalla Street behind Al Saqr Hotel in Deira.

Claiming that they were CID officers, the man was asked to prove his identity. After checking his labour card, the man was frisked during which they took two mobile phones worth Dh900 and Dh2000 in cash.

However, when the victim tried to get his belongings back, the two men assaulted him. Just then, Saleh's brother and a friend who were passing by to their way home saw the incident and intervened.

While they nabbed the Algerian national, the other one got away.

The police managed to recover the money from AR, although the two mobile phones were with the second culprit.

The case will now be heard on September 28.
