A 29-year-old Russian, KM, along with a fugitive is charged with smuggling forged Russian Rubles worth RR5,000 into the country.

He was caught when he tried to exchange the notes for Dirhams.

An Egyptian employee at the customer service counter of an exchange company testified that around 11.30pm on June 7 a Russian approached the counter and asked to exchange RR 100,000 with UAE currency.

There had been instructions from the main office to check Russian Rubles as a Syrian had tried to exchange forged notes on he very same day. The notes did not pass the test, the police were called and KM was arrested. Police also confiscated a bag that belonged to the culprit, containing forged notes.

KM confessed to smuggling the money through the Dubai International Airport with the help of a man called Rustam.

He testified that they wrapped the notes around their legs and exchanged some of the fake money via a bank and other money exchange companies.
