An Iranian, who admitted before the Dubai Criminal Court of taking a small piece of opium, claimed that it was just to get a cure from cold.
AHM, 45, worker, admitted that he possessed 0.82 gram of opium but told the jury that “I took only a small piece to get cured from the cold I had.”
As the urine test conducted on the day of the arrest on April 24, showed that he had taken morphine and codeine, the presiding Judge Al Saeed Mohammed Barghouth, asked him if he took morphine, and the accused denied the accusation.
AHM was arrested following a tip-off to police about him possessing and taking drugs, testified Khalid Mohammed, 45, policeman, before the prosecution.
After investigating the authenticity of the information, the police obtained permission from the public prosecution to search the suspect. Searching him, police did not find any drugs. However, in his accommodation they found opium hidden in a booklet in a bag.
Faced with the confiscated opium, the Iranian admitted possession and taking a piece a day before.
The case was adjourned for verdict until August 31.
