A court in Bani Yas in Abu Dhabi ordered a driver and an insurance firm to pay Dh220,000 damages to a passenger after he suffered from body mayhem and disabilities because of the driver’s negligence that caused an accident.

The Court of Cassation also ordered the two to pay five per cent interest on top of the compensation after it found that both the driver and the insurance company were responsible for the man’s injury.

A Court of First Instance ordered the two parties to pay Dh200,000 damages, prompting them to appeal the sentence. The Court of Appeals raised the sum to Dh200,000 plus interest and the ruling was upheld by the Court of Cassation, according to newspapers, which did not identify the victim.
