An Emirati in Ajman divorced his new wife just a month before their wedding after she insisted on holding the party in India, a local news website reported on Wednesday.
The woman, apparently influenced by Bolywood movies, also demanded a post-wedding party in the UAE and told the groom he must bring in a henna (dye) expert from India to do the make up for her.
“This is one of the strangest divorce cases I have handled in courts…the husband decided that he would rather end his marital life than spending all this money,” AE24 said, quoting UAE lawyer Laila Mohammed.
She said a wedding in India could cost the groom around Dh70,000 plus nearly Dh5,000 for the Indian henna expert.
“The groom decided to dump his bride after finding that his bride is strongly influenced by Indian movies,” she said.
