Man gets 6-month jail for murder threats
An Iranian businessman received six-month jail for murder threats to two people and asking for the return of $2 million which one of them had taken from his friend.
NNT, 33, is accused by the prosecution of threatening Mehrad Safari to kill him and asked him to paying back $1 million he had taken against some dealings with one of his friends.
He is also accused of threatening Mina Shakouri.
Shakouri, 31, Canadian, property saleswoman, testified before the Prosecution that on January 21, she received a phone call from a person she does not know. The caller introduced himself and asked her to meet to discuss property deals.
“I apologised but as he insisted I accepted to meet at 8pm on the same day. I met him in Dubai Marina but instead of talking about properties he started asking about whereabouts Safari. I refused to continue with him and left the place. He sent me SMSs on my mobile threatening me and Safari. He asked me to cooperate with him to find Safari…. should I refrain doing so he will not allow me to go back to Iran… I will not be able to step out of my house at night and he will land me in jail. He threatened with killing Safari saying in one of his messages that Safari will be executed and that his murder will be in the news within a couple of days,” she testified.
Shakouri called Safari on the same night and warned him about people chasing him and asking her to give information about him.
Safari, 39, German visitor, also received a call from his brother who resides in the USA warning him about unidentified people wanting to kill him. The brother supplied him with one of those people’s number.
“I called the number I was given by my brother…the one who answered was NNT…He asked my whereabouts …I told him that I am overseas. NNT ‘warned’ me that if I am in the UAE, I would have been killed….two people came from Iran specifically for this purpose…Furthermore, the Iranian government wants to kill me…He claimed that he is just a good doer and that he wants money from me against his service. He told me that a person will arrive in the UAE from London to collect the required amount,” he testified.
The case’s record included a confession of the accused that he got Safari’s number and contacted him and that he asked him to return $1 million from a woman called Nasim Bayat. As the Safari did not respond to him, he contacted Shakouri since she has a relation with Safari.
He admitted to meeting Shakouri and asking her to supply him with information about Safari. He also confessed to sending her threatening SMSs.
