A court in Ras Al-Khaimah sentenced an Arab man for one year in prison after he was convicted of defaming his nephew during an argument over money, the Arabic language daily Alittihad reported on Wednesday.
The unnamed defendant had denied the charges but witnesses told court he had swore at his nephew and defamed his mother by questioning his real origin.
But he later confessed to having defamed his nephew, saying he only uttered those words during a heated argument over financial issues.
The court also fined the defendant Dh20,000 after his nephew turned down an out of court settlement.
