Man rents car with Emirati's lost passport in Abu Dhabi

A man who found a lost passport decided to rent a car instead of taking the document to the police, throwing the Emirati passport holder into a legal battle in Abu Dhabi.

After he was arrested and taken to court, the Emirati told the judge that he has never been to that car rent company and that another person did so after finding his lost passport. The judge then ordered the Emirati to pay the firm Dh1,000.

He appealed the sentence after the company’s manager told the prosecutor that it was not the Emirati who rented the car.

“The Court of Appeals annulled that sentence and acquitted the Emirati of all charges,” the Arabic language daily 'Emarat Al Youm' said.
