The Dubai Criminal Court is hearing a case of an Emirati businessman accused of threatening to commit murder and possessing a weapon without licence.

As per the charge sheet, on January 27, OMO, 39, entered a room where MMO, journalist, was present and threatened him at gunpoint not to inform police about a sexual assault he was subject to by OMO’s friends.

Abdul Jalil Mamounhi, 22, Indian servant, testified before the prosecution that he saw his sponsor OMO entering the room of his friend NN carrying a gun and MMO was present in the same room, but did not know what happened inside.

After leaving the room, OMO gave him the gun and asked him to put back in its place.

NN, one of the accused in a separate case involving sexual assault, testified that OMO had threatened MMO with murder.

Policeman Sadiq Nasser Abdulqawi, 27, testified that the accused NN - who is a witness in this case - had confessed that his friend OMO threatened MMO with torturing, deporting and killing him if he notified police about the sexual assault.

Police had confiscated five pistols from OMO’s possession in addition to 48 bullets of 9mm and other 50 of 6.35mm size.

The Dubai Criminal Court, which adjourned the case until September 2 for hearing witnesses, was told by OMO that the pistols were gifts given to him.
