A Bangladeshi mason allegedly killed a compatriot while he was sleeping in a villa under construction over a financial dispute, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
The prosecution accused AKQ, 34, with premeditatedly killing Abdul Ghani Ismail by smashing his head with a brick while was sleeping at a construction site on October 3.
Mohammed Yaqoub, 30, Emirati, testified that at around 2.30am a man stopped him and told him about an injured person. “I entered the location and in the light of the mobile phone, I saw the victim lying with his pillow stained with blood, so I notified the police,” he said
Police officer Jamal Mohammed testified that he moved to the location after receiving information but the victim was already dead. “Investigating the case, the police reached the accused who confessed to throwing a brick on the victim’s head. Then he replaced the brick in its place and ran away from the scene to a nearby mosque where he stayed until morning. The accused then went to Abu Dhabi by public transport from where he tried to leave the country via the Oman border,” he said.
Officer Hussain Abdullah testified that the accused first told him that his name was Farooq. “Confronting him with a picture and his real name, the accused admitted to his name and confessed to killing Abdul Ghani over a dispute.”
The forensics department reported that the cause of death was sever fractures of the skull and internal bleeding due to the head being hit with a hard tool which could be a brick. It also reported that traces of blood and hair on the brick belonged to the victim. Finger and foot prints taken from a chair and carton sheets at the scene of the crime belonged to the accused. The body of the victim did not show any bruises, indicating that he did not defend himself and that he was sleeping.
