May 16: Paid holiday for private sector, not for government staff

The Labour Ministry has announced that Saturday, 16th May, 2015 is an official paid-holiday for all employees working in the UAE’s private sector.

The announcement was issued by Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Labour, pursuing provisions of Article 74 of the Federal Law No. 08 of 1980, concerning regulations in labour relations, and its amendments.

Marking the occasion, the Labour Minister offered his greetings to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Their Highnesses the Rulers of the Emirates.

Ghobash also congratulated the UAE government, its citizens and residents on this holy occasion, praying for further progress and prosperity in the UAE, the Arab and Islamic countries.

No compensation for government staff

The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has issued a circular regarding the Israa and Mi'raj holiday, which will fall on 16th May, saying that this event falls on an official holiday and therefore shall not be transferred or compensated.

The Government Human Resources Authority conveyed its greetings to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates.

The authority also greeted the Government, people of the UAE and Arab and Muslim countries on the occasion.
