The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed that since His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the Mohammed Bin Rashid Smart Majlis initiative a week ago, the RTA has received 730 ideas, and 136 improvement comments. About 436 of these cases have been examined where 56 ideas and 21 improvement comments were identified.

“About 62 per cent of ideas and improvement comments were focused on roads and traffic aspects, 35 per cent were about metro, tram, buses and taxicabs. While three per cent were related to marine transit modes,” said Ahmed Mahboub, Director of Customers Service, Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector, RTA.

“Some of the main accepted ideas were related to smart car parks enabled with systems to read the balance charged, a cycling lane to reduce congestion in Dubai, holding First Aid courses as a precondition for driver license applicants, and generating alternative power from the metro rail tracks. The most frequent comment was related to the congestion of Dubai-Sharjah road, and painting of speed humps,” he said.

“The RTA is closely monitoring all ideas and comments channeled through the Smart Majlis. A dedicated work team has been tasked to tackle all creative ideas and improvement comments received. The RTA charts out plans to achieve customers’ expectations from services on offer, and even seeks to anticipate their future aspirations,” he said and added that “such a drive will also achieve the goals of our leadership in leveraging government performance to higher global levels in serving customers and making people happier”.
