British Columbia has announced the implementation of a new Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) for its provincial nominee programme, through which it selects immigrants eager to live and work on the local market.
 
Level of education, years of direct work experience and an employment offer originating from British Columbia will define whether you are invited to apply for residency in this Canadian province.
 
British Columbia runs its own immigration programme, selecting those individuals that can contribute to the economy with the skills that they bring along.
 
Next to a skilled worker programme, it adopted a programme streamlined with the federal Express Entry system.
Under these two categories a total of six streams are outlined.
The SIRS will be operated for all six streams.
 
Similar to the federal Express Entry system, candidates will be weighed against each other through the earning of points.
 
A minimum score within the SIRS system will be required in order for a candidate to be invited to apply for provincial nomination under the BC PNP.
 
The minimum score differs depending on the BC PNP category.

The maximum score available is 200, which is divided into economic factors (120) and human capital factors (80).
Periodically, candidates will be invited from the selection pool for each category to apply.

Candidates who are invited to apply will have up to 30 calendar days from the date of invitation to submit a complete application via the BC PNP online system.

Some candidates are excluded from the system and may apply directly.

•  Skills Immigration – International Post-Graduate

•  Express Entry BC – Health Care Professional

•  Express Entry BC – International Post-Graduate
 
Moreover, it is important to note that a job offer is indicative, as any potential candidates must first accept an offer of indeterminate, full-time employment from a B.C. employer who is willing to support the candidate through the BC PNP process.
 
“The only exception to the job offer requirement is if the candidate has a graduate degree from a B.C. university in the natural, applied or health sciences,” states the website of the programme.
