A government institution specialized in supporting children with special needs is planning to launch a “mobile bus” service for the handicapped in the emirate in September, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

The Zayed Higher Corporation for Human and Special Needs Care will provide the service which will cover the handicapped and other children with special needs at home and schools, the semi official daily Alittihad said.

“This service will be operation in September and the bus will be equipped with all necessary medical and functional systems,” said Khuloud Abdul Raheem, head of the physiotherapy unit at the Corporation.

She said a mobile phone service would also be provided within the bus project, adding that the Corporation would also distribute wheelchairs to 50 handicapped children who have been registered with the service.

“These chairs will be distributed at the beginning of the next school year…these children are part of 670 cases being handled by the Corporation at present.”
