Mobile phone theft leads to jail, deportation

Five Bengalis have been sentenced to six months in jail followed by deportation over beating a man and stealing his mobile phone.

The Dubai Criminal Court heard that one of the thieves buried the stolen mobile in the sand under a tree, to get away with the theft.

JAN, 25, a cleaner at Depa Ltd, received a stolen mobile phone set from his friend, who asked him to hide it for him. JAN took the mobile and buried it.

Bengalis identified as MHM, 26, worker, RSL, 22, worker, MHK, 28, cleaner, MTM, 26, general assistant, appeared before the Dubai Criminal Court for forcibly stealing a Nokia mobile set and Dh500 belonged to Hussain Ahmad after beating him and controlling his movement.

 
JAN, was accused of possessing the mobile set while knowing it was stolen.
 
Policeman Ahmad Mohammed, 43, testified for the prosecution that on November 28, police received a notification from the operation room about a physical assault accompanied by a theft.

He said that the patrol brought in MHK who confessed about MHM, RSL and MTM as his partner in the crime.

 
Police brought the accused from their accommodation which belongs to Nafco.
 
When asked about the mobile phone set, MHM confessed giving it to JAN.

 
JAN then led police to where he had hidden the mobile buried under a tree near the accommodation.

 
The accused denied stealing the Dh500 but confessed to beating up Hussain Ahmad before the prosecution.

However, the five denied the accusation before the Dubai Criminal Court.
