Mohamed opens Cleveland Clinic in presence of King of Morocco

In the presence of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, tonight officially opened Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the multispecialty hospital on Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi, part of Mubadala’s network of world-class healthcare providers.

The opening ceremony, held in conjunction with the UAE National Day celebrations, was attended by Prince Moulay Rachid, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor and Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy National Security Advisor, Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister and Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan Chairman of the Board of Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care & Special Needs (ZHO).

Also in attendance were: Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health, Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Health Authority - Abu Dhabi (HAAD), Dr. Maha Barakat, Director General of HAAD, and a number of Moroccan officials.

Prseent were Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Group CEO & Managing Director, Mubadala; Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, Chairman, Board of Directors, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Deputy Group CEO & Emerging Sectors CEO, Mubadala; Delos "Toby" Cosgrove, MD, President and CEO, Cleveland Clinic; Tomislav Mihaljevic, MD, CEO, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi; Mubadala officials; and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi physicians and Caregivers.

Held in the hospital’s main courtyard, the ceremony began with the UAE National Anthem, followed by a speech from Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, in which he welcomed His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, royals and dignitaries. Al Mubarak shed light on the efforts made by the UAE, under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, to improve the living standards and quality of all aspects of life, such as healthcare, education and housing, for all UAE Nationals and residents. He stressed that Mubadala has sought to establish Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the most advanced medical institution in the region, to align with the priorities set by the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, which aims to establish a sustainable healthcare sector in the Emirate.

Al Mubarak also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for his wise direction and support for Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi since its inception. He praised the interest, support and commitment of Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor and Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council. Al Mubarak noted that this support is a testament to the dedication of UAE Leadership to establish a world-class infrastructure in Abu Dhabi. Al Mubarak concluded his speech by reiterating to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan the commitment of Mubadala and its companies to follow the lead of the wise UAE Leadership in fulfilling the aspirations of the people of the UAE.

Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi then addressed the guests in a speech congratulating the UAE Leadership on the official opening of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. He reported that the hospital has already started welcoming patients, and has completed more than 44,000 appointments and 3,000 interventional procedures and surgeries since opening in March 2015.

Al Muhairi also highlighted the caliber of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi as an extension of US-based Cleveland Clinic, one of the most prestigious and renowned hospitals in the world. By replicating Cleveland Clinic’s Model of Care, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi brought to the Emirate nearly a century of clinical excellence and medical expertise, reducing the need of UAE patients to travel abroad for complex and critical care. Instead, they can now receive the care they need in their home country, with their family members and loved ones by their side. 

During the Ceremony, His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, presented a recognition award to Dr. Marc Harrison, the former CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, for the key role he played in the journey of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, from inception all the way through to welcoming its first patients during the opening process.

In presence of King of Morocco, Mohamed bin Zayed to open Moroccan-Heritage Week on Friday

Welcomed by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and under the patronage and presence of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and follow up by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, the Moroccan-Heritage Week will be officially inaugurated on Friday in Abu Dhabi.

The event will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club from December 4-11.

The Heritage Week coincides with the UAE's 44 National Day anniversary to highlight the historic relations between the two countries and the role being played by the cultural and heritage dimensions in promoting the relations between the two countries.

The sessions will be open for all visitors from Saturday, December 5.

Supervisor of the organising committee, Mattar Suhail Al Yabhouni, said the preparations for the Moroccan- Heritage Week have been completed to showcase Morocco's history, traditional music, arts, handicrafts, cuisine and fashions.
