Also included among those honoured were Abu Dhabi Media Company’s correspondents in Yemen Hamdi Yassin and Yasser Omari for their coverage of events on the ground.

Mona Ghanem Al Marri, director-general of Dubai Government Media Office and chairperson of Dubai Press Club, said the honouring of the editors and journalists reflects Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s appreciation of the role of local media in covering the UAE’s participation in the Arab coalition’s Operation Restoring Hope in Yemen.

Al Marri noted the important contribution of local media, especially with regard to critical issues related to the future of the community.

Al Marri noted the influential role played by the local media in these days in addressing false news broadcast by biased media aimed at undermining social cohesion and national unity in support of legitimacy in Yemen, saying that the media bears a great responsibility towards the nation.

Marri said honouring of local media organisations will encourage those working in these institutions, especially young journalists, to make greater efforts.

Local media has played a pivotal role in recent months in shedding light on the sacrifices made by the UAE’s sons in defence of legitimacy in Yemen, and showing the commitment of the UAE to its Arab brethren in all situations.
