Mohammed launches 'Thank You' campaign

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, has asked the ‘concerned authorities’ to not undertake any special celebrations to mark his Accession Day on January 4, 2013.

“This year, like previous years, I asked the concerned authorities not to make any celebrations for the Accession Day on January 4,” Sheikh Mohammed tweeted through his Twitter handle HH Sheikh Mohammed (@HHShkMohd).

Sheikh Mohammed is, instead, directing all celebrations to honour general labour in the country, a group that the magnanimous leader says plays an active role in society.

“In the last 2 years, we highlighted key segments of the community that deserve our gratitude and attention, such as orphaned children and mothers,” Sheikh Mohammed tweeted this afternoon.

“This year, we focus on a new group: general labor employees such as gardeners, janitors, construction workers, domestic workers among others,” he added.

“These groups play an active role in society. Some have spent many years doing a great job and they deserve a big “Thank You” from all of us,” Sheikh Mohammed tweeted.

Paying his gratitude to this group of ‘unknown soldiers’, Sheikh Mohammed also tweeted a picture of himself having a chat with workers on the Dubai Metro.

“Every day our cities wake up to find clean and decorated streets and all facilities ready for a new day. Unknown soldiers are behind such work,” he said.

“We want to let them know that their services are valued and appreciated as they make our lives easier and better.”

Last year, Sheikh Mohammed paid profound tribute to every mother in UAE for their vital role in bringing up generations and grooming leaders, who are the foundation for nation building. The year before that, the leader honoured orphans in the UAE in a similar way, forgoing any celebrations for his Accession Day and instead directing the honour toward the various key segments of society.

Continuing with his heartfelt initiative, HH tweeted: “Each one of us can thank the worker at home or the gardener of the block or the person who sweeps the street outside,” along with another picture in which the UAE’s Vice-President is seen shaking hands with an ordinary worker.

“We will tell them all, “Thank you”. I shall start by myself, and I ask you to share photos of your celebration. We want kindness to prevail,” he tweeted.
