Vice President of the UAE Gender Balance Council Mona Ghanem Al Marri said that the UAE’s high rankings in international competiveness reports have been made possible by the vision and guidance of the country’s leadership.

These achievements reflect the success in creating an environment that supports the progress of all members of the society.

Her remarks came during her visit to the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority, where she praised the efforts of the Authority’s team.

Her Excellency was briefed about the performance of the UAE in various international competitiveness reports, as well as reports on women’s empowerment and gender balance.

The Vice President of the UAE Gender Balance Council also highlighted the importance of the role of women in development.

“The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan gave very high priority to women’s development; the same path is followed today by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also provides great support and encouragement for women’s empowerment,” Mona Al Marri said.

“There is a growing interest in various issues concerning women across sectors,” she added.

Al Marri also praised the support and continuous follow up of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.

The visit was part of the efforts of the UAE Gender Balance Council to achieve the objectives of the national strategy to empower women in the 2015-2021 period.

The strategy provides an indicative framework for all federal, local and private entities for developing plans and programmes to help women participate in various sectors, and attain leadership positions.

The meeting identified a number of initiatives and joint programmes that will be evaluated by the Authority and the Council, before being presented to concerned authorities.
