Morning traffic backed up to Sharjah

Update: Dubai Police also reported another crash at 8.30am, adding to the morning gridlock, this time, northbound on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

It stated: “An accident has been reported on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, before Muhaisnah bridge toward Sharjah.”

Another minor accident has also been reported on Hessa Street, heading towards Sheikh Zayed Road at 9am.

Several crashes have been reported on Sheikh Zayed Road on Monday morning, with motorists reporting gridlock on the busy highway.

Dubai Police has confirmed a crash on the busy highway, southbound to Abu Dhabi.

The authority tweeted the incident on its official Twitter account, posting at 8am: “An accident has been reported on Sheikh Zayed Road before Ibn Battuta Mall toward Abu Dhabi. Please be extra cautious.”

At 8am, the situation on the roads prompted commuter Caroline Deshpande to take to social media to tweet: “Left at 6am. Two hours later yet to cross Ansar Mall. Got to know Sheikh Zayed Road is backed up through.”

A second crash was reported at 7.30am, also on Sheikh Zayed Road, opposite Jumeirah Lakes Towers, which TrafficDXB reported near the Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residences, also heading towards Abu Dhabi.

He further added: “Sheikh Zayed Road jammed up after Media City towards Abu Dhabi.”

But the second major artery is not faring any better this morning, with one motorist tweeting at 7.30am: “Heavy traffic on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, towards Dubai starting from Sharjah Shooting Club.”

At 8.15am, Al Khan area in Sharjah was also reporting heavy congestion, prompting motorist Ahmed Bilal Wahid ‏to tweet to Sharjah Police to say: “Standstill traffic and lots of off-roading.”
