Update: The Roads and Transports Authority (RTA) has confirmed that the traffic lights are working at the Al Wasl junction, which had suffered from a temporary outage earlier this morning, causing traffic chaos with cars entering the crossroads from all four sides.
Major chaos ensued this morning as commuters using the Al Wasl cross junction discovered the traffic lights on all four sides had stopped working.
Even as this reporter ventured into the junction through Al Mina Road, at approximately 7.45am, cars from 2nd December Street and Al Wasl Road also simultaneously entered the cross space, with brakes squealing and near misses between at least four vehicles.
Traffic also appeared to be backing up on all sides.
When Emirates 24|7 contacted Dubai Police, the emergency operator said: “We have received calls in the last few minutes about the problem and have dispatched officers there to take care of the situation.”
The reason is still unclear as to what caused the Al Wasl junction traffic lights to stop working during rush hour, however, the road is considered a vital thorough way for commuters accessing Sheikh Zayed Road through neighbouring communities.
