A Dubai court has sentenced two employees of a Dubai Municipality Clinic to a year each in jail for forging medical certificates against bribes.
The two employees - an Egyptian security official ZHB, and a Bangladeshi AT – were also ordered to pay a penalty of Dh3,000 each for the crime.
The court found the two men guilty of running a racket to issue medical fitness certificates mandatory for issuance of visas by accepting bribes.
They were netted in a sting operation when a PRO of a company reported the matter to the municipality authorities who in turn sought the assistance of Dubai Police to bust the racket.
The Egyptian man was caught red handed.
Jamal Nasser, an Iraqi national who worked as a PRO for a contracting company in Dubai had taken some workers for the medical fitness test to the clinic on December 20, 2009.
On spotting him with the workers, ZHB, 39, warmed up to him and offered his services without actually getting the workers do the medical tests.
The undercover team of Dubai Police took the help of the PRO to positively respond to the offer made by the Egyptian security official.
Once in the act of accepting bribe, police arrested the man. The Bangladeshi man was hand in glove with him in illegally processing fitness certificates by attaching genuine reports with those of the applicants from whom they have accepted bribes.
