Dubai Health Authority (DHA) opened on Thursday new Burns and Plastic surgery unit (Ward 23) at Rashid Hospital.

Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director General of DHA inaugurated the new unit, considered one-of-a-kind specialised burns and plastic surgery unit in the region.

Al Qatami said the inauguration of the ward comes in light of the vast developments that DHA hospitals and centres are undergoing to elevate its medical services in all departments and specialties to meet the increasing demand for world-class international facilities in Dubai.

Al Qatami also commended the family of the late Abeed Al Hellou in funding the ward, emphasising that their contribution to funding the construction of the ward contributes to a noble cause that will positively affect the lives of many.

Dr. Alya Al Mazrouei, CEO of Rashid Hospital said the ward will cater to burn victims including those who are at a critical state with its 10 rooms that are equipped with a surgery room, 5 individual rooms and 3 intensive care rooms.

"The ward also includes a hydrology room, which means the air is continuously sterilised," she said.

Dr. Al Mazrouei said Rashid Hospital succeeded in treating 166 severe to mild burn victims from 2014 until April this year and 1,322 cosmetic burn surgeries from 2014 until June this year.

She added that by inaugurating the new ward, the hospital will be able to further provide first class treatment to burn patients.
