The Abu Dhabi Executive Council (Adec) has approved the organisational and salary structures for public schools across Abu Dhabi.

The initiative aims to achieve a comprehensive vision to develop the human resources operations across schools and attract Emiratis to the teaching profession.

Dr Mugheer Al Khaili, Director General of Adec, said that the education sector in the UAE receives unlimited support and guidance from the prudent and wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Adec.

Al Khaili said the education is a strategic priority for the emirate that aims to enhance the educational structure while enabling it to perform a vital role in development. He noted that the new structure ensures quality education and better application of educational plans to raise the standard of students.

The new structure also provides schools with an autonomous structure that empowers and supports the educational process through employing administrative staff who can help assist school leadership across schools.

Adec’s Director General said that the changes related to the organisational structure are linked to a school leadership role, since the school principal is considered the first person responsible for student results and the educational process in a classroom.

Job descriptions and roles for supervisors, cluster managers and teachers were also re-reviewed.

More staff were added to the new structures and allocated to students with special needs, where jobs and technical counseling for Cycle 3 guarantee harmony between requirements of higher education and the labour market.

Adec is working on a comprehensive system to attract the first UAE competencies in the field of education including professional development, innovation appreciation, achievement, in addition to salaries and allowances.

In this context, benchmarking studies and questionnaires show that staff satisfaction, salaries and financial allowances result in Emiratis considering teaching jobs as un-attractive.

He stated that the application of the new structures link the salary structures and allowances to Adec’s strategic and educational objectives.

Salama Al Amimi, Executive Director, Organisational Development and Excellence Office at Adec, said that the salary structure for teachers, principals, assistant principals and administrative staff at public schools in Abu Dhabi, has been initiated to raise the quality of education and increase the participation of Emiratis, while promoting a comprehensive vision to develop human resources and the status of teaching in schools.

She added that the new salary structure comes in line with requirements of the new organisational structure to ensure a professional work environment based on governance, transparency and excellence, while promoting quality education through employing and attracting qualified teachers with experience.

The plan will also help retain administrative performance, create new jobs and update the duties and roles of other basic jobs.

Al Amimi pointed out that the new salary structures are expected to attract more Emirati’s into the teaching field, and is competitive in that it honours qualified staff that hold an advanced certificate and have excellent performance skills.

In addition, the new pay scale encourages cooperation and effective participation in the educational process and helps develop teaching methodologies.

Adec has introduced an action plan to speed up the process of the new salary structure, while providing related employees with adequate and accurate information through ADEC’s customer service centre. In addition, workshops will be organised to help clarify the changes and the implementation of the new initiative.
