New speed limits will come into force in the capital from Saturday. Abu Dhabi Police in cooperation with the municipality announced revised speed limits on several roads following a government scientific and technical study.

In an effort to alert motorists of the change, municipality has begun colouring sections of road with red paving.

Colonel Hussain Ahmad Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols, Abu Dhabi Police, said: "It is easy for drivers to identify the red pavement, so they can reduce speed."

The speed limit in residential areas is between 20 and 40kmh, and the radars have been updated.

However, speed limits on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai and Abu Dhabi-Al Ain highways remain unchanged.

He said, the new regulations emphasise traffic safety, and added more details will be announced soon.
