The Public Transport Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) commenced the application of a new initiative that aims to ensure road safety for drivers and road users in general. The new initiative provides for using the latest technological methods represented in Aman system, which is self-powered sensor for monitoring taxi speed in Dubai.

“Aman system is designed to provide complete control over the speed of taxis, which amount to 8,007 taxis distributed to five franchise companies linked to the system, in case drivers exceed the allowed speed limits in the Emirate,” said Adel Shakeri, Director of the Transportation System Department at RTA's Public Transport Agency.

“Aman system operates in a flexible escalation mechanism that grants only 60 seconds to the driver to reduce the speed to the allowable limit. In case the driver does not notice the grace period, the system gives an alert sound. In case of the driver’s non-response, a ticket is to be issued for violating the allowed speed limits by taxis,” he added.

Shakeri also tackled the system’s main features, indicating that it monitors and detects any exceed of the allowed speed limits, even if the driver drives the vehicle in other than working hours. In addition, Aman system meticulously identifies the location where the speed violation occurs, and recognizes the periods of speed violation. He also pointed out that speed exceeding is measured via two advanced systems: the GPS and the Pulse system.

“The taxi franchise companies operating in Dubai, namely; Dubai Taxi, Cars Taxi, Arabia Taxi, Metro Taxi, National Taxi, have expressed a considerable cooperation to apply the system.

Aman system includes an effective monitoring mechanism for more than 18,000 drivers, which demonstrates the broad impact of the system and highlights the urgency to make use of such cutting-edge technologies in Dubai, one of the most attractive tourist and economic destinations in terms of activities, events and festivals around the globe,” said Shakeri.

He also emphasized that all efforts must be exerted to ensure road safety and societal security, which is a top priority for the Roads and Transport Authority that pays considerable attention to the human element.

Furthermore, Shakeri indicated that the system application will have a broad impact on all segments of the society, as it urges to take all preventive measures to reduce road accidents and associated loss of life or property, reinforcing a sentiment of tranquility and convenience among citizens, residents, tourists and visitors.
