Even though there were speculation whether the recent Toyota recall in the UAE would impact the fleet of Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), Emirates247 has received confirmation that it will not.

“None of Dubai Taxi Corporation Camry vehicles are affected by the defect.  Our current Camry vehicle are newer models which are not being affected.  Those affected are the older model that are not in our fleet,” read Dubai Taxi Corporation’s official statement.

Soon after news of Japanese auto giants Toyota recall in the UAE surfaced, Emirates247 had contacted DTC to identify if it will be impacted, considering the number of Camrys listed at  35,647 vehicles.

Toyota’s worldwide recall stood at 7.4 million cars, with UAE figures recorded at 65,085. The recall was exercised over safety issues regarding the vehicle’s power master window switch.

“The purpose of the campaign is to inspect the sliding electrical contact module in the driver’s side Power Window Master Switch (PWMS),” said a statement from Al Futtaim Motors’ Managing Director Simon Firth.

At the time, Al Futtaim Motors, the distributor of Toyota vehicles, was unable to determine the exact number of Camrys that could impact the DTC.

“We are working on the exact number and hope to have identified by fleet customer the VINs (Vehicle Identification Number) originally sold to them,” their spokesperson had told Emirates 24|7.

Al Futtaim was in talks with DTC over the recall process. “We will be sharing a list of the affected vehicles with DTC management as soon as possible and they will then advise those that are still in service.”

The DTC representative had added, “DTC is in constant contact with Al Futtaim regarding this matter.  Al Futtaim is currently in the midst of ascertaining whether DTC vehicles are being affected on this issue or not.”
