In the media world, the first lesson a journalist is taught is that “if a dog bites a man, this is not news, but if a man bites a dog, this is news.”

Perhaps this is applicable to the marital life in Ras Al Khaimah, where there was not a single divorce case reported in October. Officials considered this news.

Official data showed marital disputes in the northern emirate plunged by nearly 40 per cent to 59 cases in October from 99 cases in September.

“But the decline is not the happy news. The news that makes us happy is that there was not a single reported divorce case in October,” said Jassim Al Makki, director of the family reconciliation and guidance section at RAK courts.

“Some of the disputes reported in October were settled out of court while the section is trying to resolve the remaining cases.”
