No more waiting for the renewed ID card

Bowing to public pressure to find a solution to long delays in delivery, the Emirates National Identity Authority (Eida) said applicants would be able to receive their renewed cards at once after submitting their application.

The facility will be enforced next month and will initially be implemented at four Eida centres in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah before it is expanded to cover other emirates, Eida’s director general Mohammed Al Khoury said.

“Emiratis and expatriates can collect their cards just after submitting the application and paying fees at the centre,” he told Alittihad newspaper.

“There is not need for them to go to the post office to get their cards…this move will save time for the public and EIDA.”

EIDA’s decision followed increasing complaints by card holders about long delays in receiving their renewed cards, which could also end up in post offices in remote areas, forcing their owners to take leave from work.

Khoury said the new facility is not applicable to new cards as applicants must sign for stamping and have their data verified before they are issued with cards.
