Dubai saw fewer road accidents during the just-concluded Eid holidays compared to last year with the highlight being lack of any casualty, official figures released by Dubai Traffic Police revealed.

This year’s Eid break saw 22 accidents which left 11 people injured, only one of them seriously. While seven of the accident victims sustained minor injuries, only three were moderately injured.

Police records show this is a definite improvement from 2009 Eid break when 28 accidents were recorded with two people getting killed and three injured seriously.

Attributing the decline to increased awareness on road safety, Major General Mohamed Saif Al Zaffin Director General of Traffic Police Department of Dubai Police said the safety campaign launched by the police played a major role in reducing the rate of accidents.

The safety campaign aims at zero fatalities by 2020 in view of the steady decline in road deaths over the past few years.
