No transactions for cars with expired registrations

The RTA has stopped conducting any transactions for cars whose registrations have expired for more than three months, said Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of the Licensing Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority.

Bahrozyan called on owners of cars with expired registrations to speed up renewing registration so as to  avoid their vehicles getting impounded by the traffic department which is entrusted with tracking cars with expired registrations.

He added that transactions would begin only after owners renew the registration of such vehicles and the traffic system is updated.

According to RTA statistics, the number of cars with expired registrations stood at 115,380.

The number of vehicles with expired registrations stood at 113,839 at the end of November 2011, accounting for 11 per cent of the 1,052,891 vehicles registered in Dubai. 14,529 cars belonging to women had expired registrations.

Bahrozyan said Dh42.94 million was collected in fines for non-renewal of car registrations last year compared to Dh45.22 million in 2010.

He said the number of cars with registrations expired for over three months had fallen to 115,380 in 2011 from 118,632 in the previous year.

At the end of November 2011, the number of cars with registrations expired for less than a month was 910,713, one month to three months 27,615 cars, from three to six months 15,281, from six months to a year 17,343 and more than a year 81,215 cars.

RTA recently approved a fine of Dh10 for every month of delay in renewing car registrations.
