Hana Saif Al Suwiadi, Chairperson of the Environment and Natural Reserves Authority in Sharjah, has said competent authorities' team have managed to bring most of the oil spill - about 80 percent of it, under control.

She added that the leak occurred in the southern shore of Kalba city in the eastern region of the Emirate of Sharjah.

Al Suwaidi made the remarks during a meeting attended by representatives of the Authority, Sharjah Police, Sharjah Centre of the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, Kalba Municipal Council, Kalba Municipality, Armed Forces, Coast Guard, during which they discussed various ideas and proposals to assess the oil spill.

She noted that the oil spill might have been caused by a variety of crude oil from tankers, wells, marine platforms and refined petroleum products such as gasoline and diesel.
