Old Airport tunnel to open on Friday

RTA will open on Friday, the old airport tunnel on Sheikh Rashid Road, easing traffic from Sharjah towards Al Garhoud Bridge, according to Maitha Mohammed bin Adai, CEO, RTA.

The tunnel contains four lanes including a branched lane after the exit leading towards Port Saeed area.

Maitha  said: "It will also inaugurate the surface intersection of the two streets of Sheikh Rashid and Sheikh Maktoum with five lanes on each side helping traffic from Al Maktoum Street. This includes two lanes towards Sharjah and three lanes towards Airport Road, in addition to side exit lane towards Al Garhoud Bridge and Port Saeed area.

The opening of this intersection is part of the final stage of the development of Al Ittihad Street, which began with the doubling of capacity on Al Garhoud Bridge and as well as the intersections of Al Mulla Plaza and Dubai Police Headquarters.
