One year jail for posing as CID and robbing car

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced two jobless Indians to one year in jail for posing as CID staff and stealing a car, Dh1,200, a mobile phone and an iPod.

SST, 30, and JKS, 26, were ordered to be deported after serving their jail terms.

A third compatriot JSR, 41, jobless was ordered to pay Dh1,000 for possessing a white Ford car despite knowing that it was stolen.

According to the Dubai Prosecution, SST, 30, and JKS, 26, with the assist of two others,  robbed Toma Huaji, a Sri Lankan, and stole his car after stopping him and posing as CID staff on June 24.

Huaji, 41, a photographer, testified that at around 12 midnight while he was heading home, a black Lexus drove up from behind.

“Initially, I did not pay attention, but as the car drove up next to mine, the driver opened the window and asked me to stop. I stopped and two people got down from the car. They were wearing the UAE national dress and aged between 35 to 40. One of them talked to me in Urdu and asked for my driving licence and the car’s card. I refused and asked them to prove their identity but they did not so and claimed to be CID staff. As I took out my wallet from my pocket, one of them snatched it. I again asked them for their ID cards. Two others got down from the car and together started beating me. While lying on the road, one of them searched me. Two men drove away with my car which belongs to the company where I work and others ran away,” he testified.

The victim went home and informed the police.

Investigating the crime, the first accused, SST, was arrested on June 29 in Al Rifaa area, and the second accused, JKS, later in the day in Dubai Silicon area and the third JSR on July 1 around midnight at Al Rifaa area, testified Corporal Khalid Shehab. SST and JKS confessed to stealing the car after the victim bought from them a bottle of alcohol.

JSR confessed that SST and JKS had told him about the stolen car and that he asked a man called Abdul Qader to take the car to use it in the alcohol trade.
